The Virginia State Conference National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (VSC NAACP) extend condolences and prayers to the families of the 12 people killed and the many victims injured in the Virginia Beach shooting.

This is a horrific tragedy that occurred in Virginia Beach, May 31st, 2019. We salute the first responders for their heroic acts, the prompt response and putting themselves in harm’s way to save others.

These mass shooting have become common occurrences across this nation many people die at the hands of a gunman. The killings must stop. How many more lives must be lost before some form of gun control is adopted? VSC calls for common sense measures to be put in place to improve the safety of our communities.

In the coming days, the Virginia State Conference NAACP will continue to speak out about this horrid situation in Virginia Beach. We will work closely with the Virginia Beach branch of the NAACP to assist in the efforts of working with Virginia political, business, religious, community leaders in earnest attempts to begin bringing change to the current gun laws.
